Instrument Proficiency  Check (IPC)

What’s an IPC

To maintain instrument currency, pilots must log six instrument approaches, conduct holding procedures, and intercept and track courses every six calendar months. These activities are crucial for ensuring pilots are prepared to navigate safely in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC).

If these requirements are not met within the six-month window, pilots must complete an Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC) to regain currency.

At ATA Flight School, we offer a tailored IPC program designed to help pilots meet and exceed these requirements.

Our program focuses on refining key instrument flying skills, including precision approaches, procedure turns, and holding patterns, while keeping pilots up to date with the latest regulations and technologies. With guidance from our experienced instructors and access to modern equipment, pilots can confidently maintain their instrument currency and readiness for flight in challenging conditions.

What to Expect

The Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC) at ATA Flight School is designed to thoroughly assess and refresh your instrument flying capabilities. This comprehensive evaluation consists of both ground and flight portions, ensuring you meet all the necessary requirements and stay proficient in instrument flying.

During the ground portion, you'll review essential topics, including regulations, procedures, weather considerations, and updates on relevant technologies. This helps you stay current with the latest standards and prepares you for real-world instrument flying scenarios.

The flight portion includes a series of maneuvers and procedures that will test your skills in approaches, holding patterns, course intercepts, and recovery from unusual attitudes. Our experienced instructors will provide expert guidance, feedback, and additional training to ensure you have the confidence and competence to handle instrument flight conditions effectively.

At ATA Flight School, we are dedicated to helping you maintain your instrument proficiency, ensuring you're prepared for any challenging instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) you may face.
